Despite being 50 miles from the coast, Thetford is actually the location used to film outside scenes for the popular BBC comedy, Dad’s Army – the real life Walmington-On-Sea.
There is a museum in the town with all sorts of memorabilia, including costumes and vehicles used in the series.
The Dad’s Army Museum is run by volunteers and is open every Saturday from March 18 until December 2 – why not visit during your stay in the area.
For more info, their website is here. Full address for visit is:
The Old Fire Station, Cage Lane, Thetford, IP24 2DS
There is also a statue of Captain Mainwaring by the town bridge in Bridge Street opposite the Light Cinema and Bell Hotel – use postcode IP24 2AZ to find by sat nav.
